The past shapes our dreams. Our dreams shape our reality. Salice, Messina, Sicilia (Italy) is my birthplace and I spent my childhood there. Surrounded by hills and the sea, I felt free. When I fixed my eyes past the horizon beyond the 'Isole Eolie, Sicilia,' I imagined living in a far away land filled with action, excitement, and adventures. Now I am surrounded by what I had dreamt. More often than none, I find myself thinking that I live in a dream asking myself, "What's my reality?"
I restored a pocket watch by Breguet that was 200 years old, Voutilainen said, thinking about the watchmaker who once taught Jürgensen himself. "And in the barrel, there was absolutely no play. It was incredible. A man like Breguet had the philosophy, in my opinion, that link if the watch is beautiful and it works well it will last link forever. Hype doesn't last, link but tradition does."
Given that quite a few pieces that premiered at LVMH Watch Week have landed in the Hodinkee Shop, it seems fitting to link round them all up and give you the skinny on what we've got, and what's coming soon. And while we're on the subject, link I'll sprinkle in a few old-reliable link favorites from each of the brands, too while I'm at it.
If gold and quartz aren't enough personality for you, link Ferdi's other Royal Oak is a decidedly weird link and cool military dial example in steel with an easy-wearing 36mm wide case. It's a stand-out exception to the usual link from Audemars Piguet and I really like how Ferdi contextualized the oddball Royal Oak branding on the dial. Watch the video for his take on this uncommon and charming Royal Oak.
My favorite modification on this new collaboration, though seemingly insignificant, is that additional negative space link on the center section link of the dial paired with the gradual deepening of the engravings towards the center. It's amazing to me how those little changes make the star motif seem way more elegant and feel more link like a conscious design element rather than just something to fill up a large dial. It's just a brilliant modification.
For this outing link of Editors' link Picks, we offered a compelling hypothetical – what watch would you like to inherit? From Cartier to Patek, snakes, and Stella dials, here are the watches we hope will one day link be passed down to our wrists.
